1 year well check

On Thursday, we took Grant for his 1 year old well check.  It went pretty well other than the fact that he had to get 3 shots and his finger pricked!!  That was not so much fun for any of us!  He weighed 23 lbs and 10 ozs (75th percentile), was 30 1/4 inches tall (75th percentile), and his head was 19 inches (90th percentile).  He is right on track with everything as far as his growth and development, which was great to hear :)

We talked to our pediatrician about switching him off of formula and onto milk.  She suggested just trying whole milk, but with Grant's history of a milk protein allergy, we are a little afraid of doing that just yet.  So yesterday, we started the switch to soy milk.  He did pretty well and is getting used to drinking it out of his sippy cup, but we did still have to give him 2 bottles of soy milk.  It is going to be most difficult to get rid of the morning and bedtime bottle.  We are also in the process of switching him to table food and have completely stopped his acid reflux medicine in the past few weeks so there have been lots of changes!

Other updates:
Grant is walking more and more!  He is walking longer distances and is getting a little more stable on his feet.
He can now blow kissess and will try to give a kiss when asked, which consists of his open mouth touching some part of your face :)
Some other new word that he can say are "bubbles" and "clock"

First Steps!!

Grant took his first steps yesterday!  He walked 2-3 steps by himself from his leapfrog activity table to me sitting on the couch.  He did the same thing later on last night walking back and forth between me and Brandon.  He is definitely only taking a few steps at a time by himself and he does the frankenstein walk where his arms are out so he can balance himself better, but it is very exciting to watch!  I have to say that it also makes me very nervous because I am afraid he is going to crash at any second...he did have one small crash last night, but it only slowed him down for a few minutes and then he was right back to normal :)

One Year Old!!!

My little baby turned 1 on Saturday.  We celebrated with a baseball theme birthday party.  We had almost 40 friends and family over to celebrate the big day and couldn't have had a better time!  It was so great to see everyone and Grant had lots of fun!  We visited, played, ate snacks and cake and opened presents.  Grant did awesome and didn't even miss the fact that he had no afternoon bottle or nap.  We took over 300 pictures and I posted some of my favorites below.

So, what is Grant like at 1 year old?  Well, he can stand alone now without holding on to anything, but still hasn't taken any steps by himself yet.  He still loves to play with any kind of ball and loves to wear his hat.  He also likes to play the "chase" game where we chase him around.  He dances to music and likes to swing in his new swing.  He understands "no" and will actually listen when we tell him "no" at least some of the time.  He tries to help with brushing his hair and putting on his socks (so cute!).  He understands when we say things like, "Go get the ball," "Get your hat" or "Get your duck" and will follow through and do it.

Some of his new words are: dog, block, up, cup, sock, MaMaw, "all gone" and "night night."  He says a lot of his words now on his own rather than just imitating us, but still imitates a lot of what we say also.

Grant is wearing 12-18 month clothes and size 3 diapers (we are getting ready to move to size 4).  He eats 3 meals a day and has 4 bottles a day.  He is doing great drinking water from his sippy cup.  We are starting him on more table food now and are going to try transitioning him off of formula and his bottle after we have his 1 year well check next week.  We still aren't sure about the best way to transition him since he has the milk protein allergy, although we have started introducing some food this week that has small amounts of milk products.  He has really grown and I can't wait to find out his height and weight at his appointment.

Grant continues to love daycare and all of his friends and teachers there.  A few weeks ago, he actually cried one day when I picked him up and he had to leave.  It made me sad, but also happy to know he loves being there so much.  We are very fortunate to have a daycare that we like so much that is also very convenient to our home and work.

He has been doing good sleeping through the night and when he does wake up, we think it is probably because of teething.  He still only has 2 teeth, but I know he is going to be getting more any minute.

Turning 1 is an exciting time, but it also brings lots of change with transitioning his food, formula and off of the bottle onto a sippy cup.  I have to say that parenting has been and continues to be such a learning experience!  It is definitely one of the best and most rewarding things of my life, but also one of the most challenging at the same time!  This last year truly has flown by and I really can't wait to see what the next year will bring as my sweet little man becomes a toddler!

We gave Grant a preview of his Birthday present the night before...we just couldn't wait :)

My New Swing

We bought Grant a swing a few weeks ago and Brandon hung it from the tree in our backyard.  Grant has been scared of it and wouldn't swing in it.  On Tuesday, MaMaw finally was able to get Grant to enjoy swinging and now he loves it! Thanks MaMaw for helping me like my new swing!

Mother's Day

Last Sunday was my first Mother's Day and it was a great day!  Grant made me a potted flower at daycare and also got me a really sweet card, some books and a picture frame for Mother's Day (Thanks Dad!).  We spent the day playing and visiting with our families.  Grant loved every minute of it and was happy to wish MaMaw, MiMi, GiGi and Aunt Kelli a happy Mother's Day also!  It is great being a Mom!
