Graduation Time!

Grant had his school graduation ceremony last night. Every year they have a theme for the graduation and this year there was a sports theme. Grant was super excited about his baseball uniform and could hardly wait to wear it!

This was our first experience with seeing Grant up on stage performing and he did great! All of the kids were amazing and the ceremony was so cute! The 4 year old class wore cap and gowns because they were graduating preschool and will be going to "big school" next year. It was such a special celebration for everyone and the church sanctuary was packed. I cried through half of the ceremony...I was so proud of our little man and honestly can not believe how grown up he is already! MaMaw and PaPaw were able to come too and MiMi stayed home with Colton. We were able to video everything so that MiMi could also see it. Grant was so proud of himself and we couldn't be more proud of him. It was such a special night! I can't believe he will be going to kindergarten in 2 short years. I am in no way ready to think about that!
My two baseball players:)

Our first family pic since we left the hospital:)
It was a little difficult to get good pictures, but we did our best. The video is better. Grant's teacher is Ms. Becca who is standing in front of the podium and Ms. Linda is the Director and she is standing at the podium. We love all of the teachers at his school so much! Ms. Becca made a book of Grant's artwork from this year that we also got yesterday...so special!
They sang 3 different sports related songs and recited a prayer. They all did an amazing job!

Proud grandparents

Proud parents. I am so happy that we were able to spend this individualized time with Grant since there has been lots of focus on his baby brother for the past 2 weeks.

Grant really enjoyed his graduation celebration and is excited to be moving to the 3 year old class this summer.
I feel so fortunate to have found a school that we are so happy about and that Grant enjoys so much. All of the teachers are so caring and devoted and Grant has learned so much. He loves playing with his friends, all of the outside time, music class, and the many art projects that they do. As difficult as it will be to go back to work in a few months, I am so thankful that I have such a great place to take both of my boys.

Two Week Updates

Brandon went back to work on Tuesday so Colton and I have had lots of one-on-one time this week and the week has gone really well. The days have actually been going by pretty quickly and mostly revolve around Colton's feeding schedule right now. He has been awake and alert more during the day this week. On Tuesday, he was doing a little tummy time and was starting to get a little fussy with it and then he actually rolled himself over to his back. I couldn't believe it and I'm sure he won't roll over like that again for a while, but I was pretty shocked when he did it. He is a strong little boy and can surprisingly pick his head up pretty well for his age.

He spent his first night in his crib on Wednesday night. It's funny that we didn't move Grant to the crib until he was 2 months old and Colton's isn't even 2 weeks yet and we felt comfortable moving him to the crib. We do have a movement monitor and a video monitor so that made me feel much more comfortable with transitioning him to the crib. He slept well and has been going 4 to 4 1/2 hours between feedings at night and staying asleep during that time, which I think is great for his age. We do keep him swaddled at night and I think that really has helped with his sleeping.

I took him to his 2 week well check today and everything checked out great. He gained weight and is up to 8 lbs 2 ounces so I was very happy to hear that. I am still breastfeeding, but am having to supplement about 2 ounces of formula with every feeding. I was so glad to hear that he was above his birth weight.

All in all, we have had a good week and I love that I am going to be home this summer to watch my little guy grow:)

Pea in a Pod
Yesterday evening he fell asleep in my arms after one of his feedings. When I looked down, this is what I saw and it really cracked me up. I guess life is really hard as a 2 week old:)
So peaceful

Colton's First Bath

Colton had his first bath on Monday night. We have just been giving him a sponge bath because of his circumcision and umbilical cord, but the ring came off of his circumcision on Monday so we decided to give him more of a real bath on Monday night (although we can't submerge him in water until the umbilical cord comes off which hopefully will be soon).

I wish I could say it was a pleasant experience, but he hated it. He screamed the entire time so we tried to make it as quick as possible. He really, really hates being cold! I'm sure eventually he'll like bath time, but he's definitely not a fan of it right now:)

He finally calmed down once he got a little more warm and cozy.

1 week old

Colton was 1 week old on Friday and the week seemed to go by really quickly. Colton is your typical newborn at 1 week. He sleeps a lot, sometimes has his days and nights confused, but for the most part has been doing well sleeping at night considering his age. He is starting to be a little more awake and alert during the day and really crys very little. He hates getting his diaper changed. He is wearing newborn clothes and some of them are a little big for him, but I do feel like he is growing and gaining weight. We held off until this weekend ong giving him a pacifier, but we broke down and gave him one yesterday and he does enjoy the pacifier. He likes to keep his hands up at his face and loves being bundled up and warm. We went on our first stroll around the neighborhood yesterday and hope to be doing a lot of that this summer. He loves being cuddled and loved by his family:) He is our sweet little guy.

Look at that little grin.

Colton's First Week

Colton had a good first week at home. We have had lots of visitors and it's been great spending time with family and friends this week. Brandon and I have both been home all week, which has been helpful for us to figure out a good routine (which we are still working on). We have been trying to keep Grant on his schedule so he went to school all week and we tried to spend as much individualized time with him as we could in the afternoon and evenings. Grant is still getting used to all of the change and hasn't been listening the greatest, but he has been doing better this weekend. It's just going to take some time for everyone to get adjusted to our new routines. I have to say that I am going to be very sad when Brandon has to go back to work on Tuesday. It's been so nice for both of us to be home together this week, but he is getting a little stir crazy and I know things will ultimately be fine after he goes back to work.

I have been feeling pretty good and haven't had much soreness at all (nothing compared to what I had with Grant) so that has been really nice this time around. I am unfortunately getting a cold though,

I have been breastfeeding Colton and then supplementing with formula (1-2 ounces each feeding) because I don't have a large enough milk supply to just breastfeed him. He has been eating every 2-3 hours during the day and has been going 3-4 hours between feedings at night. We have had a couple of nights with little sleep, but overall he is doing pretty well sleeping between his night time feedings. It's definitely taking some time for me to get used to only sleeping for 2-3 hours at a time. He sleeps a lot during the day and crys very little. He hates having his diaper or clothes changed. He likes being swaddled and bundled up and doesn't like anything that involves him being cold. It has been so nice that we are able to use everything of Grant's for Colton. Colton is definitely going to grow up with lots of hand-me-downs:) Overall, he is a pretty relaxed baby and I feel like we are a little more relaxed this time around (as much as you can be with a newborn).

We took Colton for his 1 week well check on Wednesday and he had gained 2 ounces and was up to 7 lbs 8 ounces. They measured him at 20 inches long and his head was 14 inches. Everything checked out great at his well check and we have to take him back next Friday for another weight check.

So we have had a pretty good week for our first week as a family of 4. I'm hoping that everything will just continue to get easier and easier:)

Colton's first morning at home. Brandon is such a great dad and husband. He has been so supportive and involved with everything.
Checking out his crib. Colton is sleeping in a bassinet in our room for now.

Tummy time with big brother. Grant can be a little wild at times so we do have to watch him closely when he is "playing" with Colton. For the most part, Grant is very sweet and gentle with him.
Grant loves giving Colton kisses on his head.
