14 Month Updates

Communication
Grant's favorite words to say: no, go, cracker, Daddy, gone gone, hat, and ball
Some new words: cookie, mine (which he learned from his friends at daycare :)), out, bibby for bib
Grant can also show you these body parts when asked: belly button, toes, hair, teeth and my nose
He also follows one step, simple commands pretty well (if he wants to)
Grant likes saying "bye bye" and blowing kisses when leaving anywhere

Activities
Grant loves, loves, loves any riding toys...like riding his bike and in his wagon outside and his Cars car inside.  He also loves to sit in his Cars chair.
He loves climbing on anything and everything and has learned how to push his car or chair over to the couch or coffee table and climb up on them by himself, which of course means I have to watch him like a hawk constantly!
He can climb up the stairs and we have to be so careful that the gates are always closed on the stairs.
He has also started spinning around in circles when he dances to music :)
He will actually sit still long enough to read a book (sometimes) particularly at bedtime.
He loves anything that has to do with being outside, hats, balls, and cars.
He is definitely in the tantrum phase when he doesn't get what he wants, when he wants it...which is not so much fun when we are out in public.

Growth
He is getting his 5th tooth and 6th tooth- they are both top molars, one on each side.
He got his 2nd hair cut last weekend.  Brandon took him by himself because I had to work and he did really well.
He wears 5 1/2 or 6 wide or extra wide shoes. We just had him measured for his correct shoe size this weekend and bought him some new stride rite shoes.
He is in 18 month clothes and size 4-5 diapers.
He weighs 26 lbs. 11 ozs. fully clothed.

Daycare
In two weeks, he will be moving up to the next room at daycare, which is exciting but also makes me nervous!  He loves going into that room because it is bigger and has different toys and he will be in there with kids 18 months-2 years, which will be great for his development.  It really is amazing to me how quickly he learns things from other kids at daycare, of course there are pros and cons to that.  Anyway, he will be napping on a mat on the floor instead of in a crib.  He will be sitting at a kids table to eat instead of a high chair.  They also start teaching them to drink from a regular cup, use utensils to eat, and will begin potty training when he is closer to 2.  So many changes!!  His teacher assures me that he will do fine and that he will pick up on things because he will see the other kids doing it...I just can't imagine him staying still on a mat on the floor to nap.

Also, speaking of picking things up from daycare...On Saturday night, we noticed Grant was getting a rash that looked like little red bumps around where is diaper is, on his legs, feet, and hands.  We first thought it was a heat rash, but on Sunday morning he had little blisters on his hands and feet.  Luckily, our pediatrician is open on the weekends and we took him in on Sunday morning.  He has Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease, which sounds a lot worse than what it really is.  It basically is a virus that causes a rash, fever, and blisters typically in the mouth, on the hands and feet.  It is something that just goes away after a few days and his doctor said he most likely got it from another child at daycare sometime the previous week.  It takes a few days for the symptoms to start, but it is really contagious for other kids.  (It doesn't really effect adults because we are basically immune to it.)  So, luckily Grant has a mild case and hasn't been running a fever and doesn't have any blisters in his mouth.  He just has a few on his hands and feet and a mild rash.  He acts completely normal, but we are going to keep him home from daycare until the middle of the week to make sure he doesn't pass it on to the other kids.  Having it now will also help build up his immunity for the future...it is apparently really common for kids in daycare to get this.  Like I said...pros and cons to daycare.

All in all, Grant is doing really well and he is still in a constant state of change...growing and learning more and more each day and constantly on the go!  I am trying to do the best I can to keep up with him!!
